intro post
for helping people get into this series... why
(feel free to share this around it's not meant to be private or anything)
if you're new to fate/,run away start with the zero anime then watch the unlimited blade works anime. or the other way around. i'm not the boss of you. i do not recommend starting with the vn, it's good (and important for deeper characterization) but long as hell and takes forever to get going so it's better to read as a fan than as an introduction.

+ legal alternatives if you're in the US which i am not
tws for zero include violence/gore, body horror, and child abuse (mostly in the first episode). ubw isn't as bad, but still has the first two in spades. neither show is sfw; even without any sex scenes there's still non-explicit nudity and sexual imagery. if you have any specific triggers i'm happy to offer timestamps you might want to avoid.
after that the world is your oyster. ubw is one route of the visual novel, the others are fate and heaven's feel. fate got an anime back in 2006 that is decent, i guess, but not really recommended; heaven's feel is getting turned into 3 movies sometime in 2017/2018 that should be good but obviously aren't out yet. if you're interested in the vn, here you go:

if you do choose to go the download route i recommend picking realta nua, which is basically the original vn without porn and with voice acting, extra cgs and animation. the sex scenes are minor and all fuckawful (heh), they're only good if you want to laugh endlessly at the awful writing. the lp skips them too.
the sequel to fsn is a visual novel called fate/hollow ataraxia. there's a serious main plot running through it but for the most part it's just everyone from fsn chilling out and getting into stupid situations. you can download it here **, unfortunately there aren't any text/picture lps of it but there are some on youtube. this is very much recommended content for rping since it gives you far more info on character personalities/quirks outside of the war, especially for the servants.
and as of october there's now a voice patch for fha too! rejoice.
that's it for mainline content! there are 25930592309 spinoffs but those are covered here and are generally riddled with spoilers for zero/sn. if anyone has questions i'll do my best to answer 'em. anon should be on if you're shy.
** before you start the game, go into the folder and delete config.ksc then open the game and choose a new savefile location. otherwise it'll crash when it tries to save, since the assigned directory won't exist on your computer.
